In the heart of the 14th arrondissement, the Jules-Noël stadium now welcomes blind soccer players. A facility tailored for the visually impaired, designed for practicing this sport, has been inaugurated in ahead of the Paris 2024 Games.
A first in Paris. Welcome to the capital's first approved blind soccer pitch, in the heart of the Jules-Noël sports center, near Porte de Châtillon (14th arrondissement). This facility was eagerly awaited and opened just a few weeks before the Paralympic Games, where the French team won the gold medal!
What's special about this field? Its Plexiglas handrails and field hockey style goals make it perfect for the sport. It will serve as a training and competition pitch for the Valentin Haüy association, a benchmark in the small world of blind soccer.
You've never heard of blind soccer? This adapted form of soccer is played by visually impaired players. Created in Spain in the 1920s, this sport has been included in the Paralympic Games since 2004. A match pits two teams of five players against each other, including a sighted goalkeeper. The ball is equipped with bells, enabling the athletes, wearing masks, to find their way around.
